About The Katherine Thomas School (KTS)
KTS is a program of The Treatment and Learning Centers (TLC), a non-profit, 501(c)(3), organization founded in 1950 in Rockville, MD that annually serves more than 2,200 children and adults with a wide range of special needs. TLC’s mission is to improve the lives and expand possibilities for these individuals through offering a family of services within one organization.
Since 1995, KTS has enabled students with moderate to severe learning differences meet her/his full potential. Serving children in pre-school through 12th grade, KTS prides itself on understanding and meeting the learning needs of each student including their unique academic, social, and emotional challenges. By customizing curriculum through creative, multisensory, and research-based programs, KTS develops reading, writing, math and organization skills, and cultivates a life-long love of learning.
It began in 2005, parents Mary Rill & Shelly Bogasky planned the first soiree auction benefit with a vision for a social event where teachers, staff, parents and supporters of KTS could mingle and make a meaningful impact on funding classroom wish lists. The Parent Association has never looked back.

Past Benefit Proceeds in Action
2018: The KTS 12th Benefit raised $70,000 for facility improvements adaptive equipment, technology, educational materials, student experiences and staff appreciation events.
2017: The KTS 11th Benefit raised $90,000 for a professional kitchen for the High School culinary and hospitality program, adaptive equipment, technology and educational materials.
2016: The KTS 10th Benefit raised $50,000 in support of sensory playground equipment and shade structures.
2015: The KTS 9th Benefit raised $36,000 in support of more classroom technology resources, including smart boards and audio-visual learning aids, such as teacher voice amplification (FM) systems.
2014: The KTS 8th Benefit raised $34,000 in support of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) resources. Check out these stories from the KTS High school and from the KTS Lower & Middle schools.
